An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified, experienced and inspiring Head of Spanish to join our thriving Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) department. The successful applicant will be an exemplary classroom practitioner with a passion for languages, excellent subject knowledge, and a proven record of outstanding academic results, who can also contribute collaboratively to the strategic development of language provision across the school.

The Modern Foreign Languages Faculty at Rossall School exemplifies the community’s strong commitment to international-mindedness. Mandarin, Spanish, German and French are all offered by the department at Key Stage 3 and 4 as well as in the Sixth Form. Spanish is also offered in the Prep school from Reception age upwards. The department places great emphasis on encouraging pupils to develop an enjoyment of literature, culture and history. Each year a good number of students elect to study languages at universities within the UK or Overseas. Languages constitute a cornerstone of the curriculum at Rossall and the departments are central to the intellectual and cultural life of the School. Annual visits to Spain, France and Germany provide a superb context within which pupils are able to develop their linguistic fluency.

The MFL department is currently undergoing an exciting phase as a new KS3 curriculum is underway. The successful candidate will join a forward-thinking MFL department committed to developing strong linguists through a creative and challenging curriculum. They will have the opportunity to contribute significantly to the ongoing curriculum development, leveraging their expertise and innovative ideas. The department's well-resourced classrooms, including interactive TVs and access to digital platforms, provide an ideal environment for implementing modern language teaching methodologies and enhancing student engagement through technology.

The candidate must be able to teach Spanish up to A Level and preferably French up to GCSE. Candidates who can also teach French up to A Level would be highly desirable. Additionally, the successful candidate will be willing to contribute to the MFL department's co-curricular program and the wider life of our boarding school. Experience with the International Baccalaureate is desirable but not essential.
