Descripción
The Department of Spanish and Portuguese in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Iowa seeks to hire a linguist focused on Spanish sociolinguistics.
The appointment will be a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant Professor, effective August 20, 2025.
The ideal candidate will have primary expertise in sociolinguistics, focused on the Spanish-speaking world, Spanish-speaking communities within other non-Spanish dominant contexts, and/or Spanish in contact, and will have a strong record of research and teaching to complement and/or expand existing areas of focus in the department.
We particularly encourage candidates with a collaborative approach who envision themselves working with theoreticians and experimentalists in a variety of fields, and who can situate their study of sociolinguistics across diverse contexts. There are many opportunities to contribute to programs committed to cross-disciplinary inquiry, develop ties to language scientists across the university, and establish contacts with the broader Iowa community through outreach and engagement activities. Candidates from outside the United States are also encouraged to apply.
